AVAILABLITY

* Police K-9 units are extremely busy and are not on-call for the typical searches we would be hired for. They are needed for more serious drug interdiction work; typically searching for large quantities of illegal drugs, or being implemented in high-risk situations.

* Police K-9 units do not have the man-power to search even a fraction of the locations that we are available to search in a given day. We can be more efficient because we do not have to worry about questioning or arresting suspects, writing reports, or waiting for warrants or other officers to arrive. Also, Police K-9 units have a priority to be used in law enforcement only.

LEGAL REASONS

* Police K-9 officers will need some form of probable cause to use a dog. This is for their legal protection in court; the evidence needed to insure the search was legal to begin with. "I think Johnny smokes dope" would not necessarily qualify as probable cause.

* When a Police K-9 finds an illegal narcotic, someone will likely be arrested, and potentially face a lifelong felony criminal record. Hiring a private K-9 Detection company allows you the ability to handle the problem in-house, preventing a possible criminal record.

CONTROL

* Our client gets to be in control of the search by deciding exactly when and where they wish us to search. They also have the ability to stop a search at any point for any reason.

* Control is maintained by the client even after a dog indicates on the source of a potential contraband odor. We note the exact location of the alert, then notify the client. We do not handle the substance, verify what it is, nor do we dispose of the substance. It is up to the client to determine how they wish to handle the evidence and the situation. We are not law enforcement officers and it is up to the customer or authority figure to take the appropriate actions should an actual substance be found.

DISCRETION

* The entire neighborhood, office, or dormitory will know exactly what is going on should a Police K-9 unit search a property. With the use of marked cars, lights, uniforms, exposed weapons, and numerous officers, law enforcement activities tend to always draw a crowd of onlookers. Discretion is the last thing on the local Law Enforcement's minds. We, however, can be extremely discrete upon request; showing up quietly in unmarked, non-police-like vehicles by appointment, wearing casual dress apparel with no exposed weapons, and slip quickly into your property with our dogs.

* Our dogs are trained to "alert" passively (sit and stare) or actively (sit and bark once, or place a paw) at the presence of contraband. Police K-9s are typically trained with an "aggressive alert" (chew, dig, and tear). Your property won't be put in jeopardy when we perform a search.
